ONI Raise more than £3,700 for Brain Tumour Support Charity
The staff of Ornua Nutrition Ingredients UK, based in Leek, Staffordshire, have raised more than £3,700 for Brain Tumour Support, a charity that supports one of their colleagues.
The company spent the whole of 2019 coming up with different ways of raising funds. Activities throughout the year included a Christmas raffle, a coffee morning, a Christmas Jumper Day, Movember, a Sparkle Day and a 10 km walk. “The walk was so successful that I’ve had a number of requests to do it again as it was a lovely way to socialise and relax in a beer garden afterwards with a well-deserved drink and lunch,” said Stephanie Jones, Customer Services Coordinator. “Colleagues had lots of fun raising the money. In the summer some participated in the Shropshire Mud Run raising over £300. Two colleagues took on the Movember challenge, growing odd-looking moustaches and raising over £150. The events were not too challenging but generated an astonishing amount of donations whilst bringing colleagues, friends and family together. We would like to thank businesses local to Leek for donating prizes, including Leek Bar & Grill, Peak Wildlife Park, West Street Meats, The Retreat and Domino’s Pizza. Special thanks to E H Hassell & Son based in Trentham who donated £1,000. The staff and management of Ornua Nutrition are delighted with the total amount raised.”
Jane Bradbury, Trading Manager, who nursed and lost someone close to her from a brain tumour commented "The best thing about Brain Tumour Support’s Facebook Forum is that it is there 24 hours a day to offer support during times where we feel we cannot cope. This made us feel that we were not alone as someone is always there if needed.”
Brain Tumour Support, which runs a monthly support group in Stoke-on-Trent, as well as 22 other support groups up and down the country, has seen a 51% increase in demand for its services in the last year. “In order to meet this growing demand, we need to raise around £600,000 per year,” said Emma McKeown, deputy CEO of Brain Tumour Support. “We are so grateful to all the staff at Ornua Nutrition for choosing our charity and giving so generously. Their support will mean we can be there for more brain tumour patients and their families. We aim to be there for as long as we are needed, at any point in their journey.”
